First released in 1986, The Legend of Zelda has gone on to become one of Nintendo's most popular and successful franchises. Zelda games have taken various formats, from the early top-down and platform editions to third-person adventures, such as the open-world game A Breath Of The Wild, released in 2017. Gameplay consistently combines action-adventure and RPG elements, with the story usually based around playing as Link and saving Princess Zelda from the evil Ganondorf. Nintendo confirmed in 2019 that a sequel to A Breath of the Wild would be forthcoming.
